Very rare amp. Couldn't even find another one on the web. Had to find teh model by researching schematics. It’s a Montgomery Wards Airline Model GVC-9062A from 1962
Issue was that it would quit every now and then. Guessing for now that was due to the broken solder joints to the speaker (one side was just resting in the hole, while the other was down to one strand).
While all caps checked out, one is visibly leaking (cathode cap on 6v6). All the other look fine. It looks like a rodent chewed on the reverb cords.. have yet to test that circuit yet, as it still requires a power cord upgrade.
Replaced the two-prong cord with a one that’s properly grounded, and replaced the cathode caps (60 year old electrolytics).
Did test the tubes in the test amp-- all sound fine with no microphonics.
Fired up the amp. Tremolo is off (again, 60 year old caps), and the reverb isn’t reverbing. Another odd thing about this amp is that it has a 6V6 driving the reverb tank (which is encased in a cardboard box). No news from owner yet whether it’s worth it to them to do a deep dive on these issues, but we may replace the tremolo caps just out of curiosity. The tremolo works. Client says not to spend more than $100 total. Reverb is still very weak, but testing the transformer would put it (well ) over 100. Turning back to client with new cord, new cathode caps, new V1 socket, working tremolo and weak reverb. The filter caps are original, would be another $40 to replace. Therefore no warranties or guarantees on this one.
